I cannot say how delighted I was to discover that this September 20-22, in Scranton, PA there will be a conference on the diaconate in the Eastern Catholic Churches. For anyone interested in the diaconate and the minor orders in the Eastern Churches this will be an unique opportunity to gather with others who share a similar interest in order to facilitate an exchange of experiences and ideas. Such gatherings do not present themselves with any frequency. This is likely the first such conference ever to be held with an exclusive focus on the diaconate in these Churches. Hopefully, there will be an excellent turnout for this event and that it will provide a fruitful encounter among the participants of the various Churches. Our Orthodox brothers and sisters should not be shy to attend for they have much to share with us given their experience of the diaconate.
